Everton defender John Stones faces lengthy injury layoff

The 20-year-old injured his ankle in the loss to Manchester United and will miss up to three months. Stones has also had to withdraw from the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers.

As though it weren't bad enough that Everton lost to Manchester United last weekend. Now John Stones, who suffered an ankle injury during the match, is facing surgery and could be out for three months:

The defender, just 20 years old, has made five starts for the Toffees this season and was on his way to becoming a regular in Roberto Martinez's side, after making 21 appearances for Everton last year.

He'd also done enough to impress Roy Hodgson, who called him up to the England squad for the fixture against Switzerland last month. Stones was part of the team set to play against San Marino and Estonia in Euro 2016 qualification this week, but has been forced to pull out of the side.
