Michael Vick injured after taking high hit, replaced by Matt Simms

The Jets quarterback is taken to the locker room after a big high hit against the Chiefs.

Michael Vick was injured and replaced by Matt Simms in the second half of the Jets Week 9 matchup against the Chiefs.

UPDATE: Vick returned to the game late in the fourth quarter, emerging from the locker room with his helmet and re-taking the reins from Simms.

Vick was already limping as the Jets moved deep into the red zone at the start of the fourth quarter. He then took a huge hit up high as he scrambled and tried to make a play on 4th-and-goal. Here's the hit at the bottom right of the screen just as Vick got rid of the ball:

Vick stayed down on one knee for an extended period of time before being guided to the sideline by teammates and training staff.

The Jets turned it over on downs after the play, but it appears Simms will get the call on the next series as Vick went back to the locker room for further evaluation. He was initially listed as questionable to return.

Geno Smith, the Jets starter for most of the season, was benched in favor of Vick last week but was also listed as questionable this week with a shoulder injury. Smith was deactivated for Week 9 and Simms, recently promoted from the practice squad, dressed in his spot. Simms played in three games last year, completing 16 of 31 passes for 156 yards, one touchdown, and an interception.

The Jets trail by two touchdowns midway through the fourth quarter and are trying to avoid their first eight-game losing streak since the mid-90s.
