Aston Villa sack Paul Lambert

The Villans had to make a move with the club in the drop zone.

Aston Villa have finally given Paul Lambert the boot. The club announced that they have parted ways with the manager who oversaw their drop into the relegation zone, hoping that a change at the top could keep them in the Premier League.

Villa lost to Hull City on Tuesday, another defeat in a string of embarrassing performances, but this one was especially notable as it dropped them into the bottom three for the first time all season. With relegation looming, the club had to make a move. First-team coach Scott Marshall and goalkeeping coach Andy Marshall will lead the team for the time being, but the club plan to find a permanent replacement for Lambert before long.

The club gave Lambert a new contract prior to the season despite finishing 15th last year, and it was that new deal that most thought kept him around this long. The team was horrific and amazingly inept in the attack from the get-go, but it got especially bad of late as they went nearly 11 hours without finding the net. They have just 12 goals in 25 matches, 10 fewer than the next-worst team in the league.
