Maple Leafs Daniel Winnik taken off ice on a stretcher

After a big hit by Avalanche defenseman Jan Hejda, Winnik fell to the ice on his head.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Daniel Winnik was taken from the ice on a stretcher following a first-period collision.

Winnik took a heavy hit from Colorado Avalanche defenseman Jan Hejda and fell to the Pepsi Center ice on his head. Winnik laid there motionless and needed to leave the ice on a stretcher.
