This seems not ideal.
DeAndre Jordan's free throw struggles have been a major talking point this season: He's shooting a dismal 41 percent from the line, but he's so good at everything else -- shooting 72 percent from the field, averaging 14.2 rebounds per game -- that he's too valuable to take off the court, even as teams resort to the Hack-A-Jordan.
Before today's game against the Bulls, cameras caught Jordan practicing his free throws... by banking them off the glass:
Doris Burke reported that coaches advised this, and that he's trying to "wake up his wrist." But free throw shooting is about learning how to consistently repeat the same motion over and over again, and it seems rather strange that it would be beneficial in any way to consistently repeat a slightly different motion. It seems like the only thing that could do is screw up your muscle memory.
Jordan has banked in free throws in the past... we don't think it was intentional:
