Carson Palmer placed on injured reserve, fantasy season is over

Carson Palmer tore his ACL on Sunday and the Cardinals put him on season-ending IR. We break down the fantasy implications.

The Arizona Cardinals have confirmed that quarterback Carson Palmer has a torn ACL and placed him on injured reserve, ending his season.

Palmer suffered the torn ligament in Sunday's Week 9 win over the St. Louis Rams, going down on a non-contact injury. The 35-year-old has a long rehab ahead of him, but the silver lining is that he had a clean tear and did not damage any other ligaments in his knee. After missing three games earlier in the season with a nerve issue in his shoulder, Palmer ended up playing just six games in 2014. He will end his year with 1,626 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions on a 62.9 completion percentage.

Fantasy impact: It now falls on Drew Stanton to carry the load for the 8-1 Cardinals. Stanton started three games earlier this year, leading Arizona to a 2-1 record. He's a capable game manager but his stats hardly jump off the page -- Stanton has completed just 49.5 percent of his passes and averaged 6.6 yards per attempt. With the bye weeks winding down, Stanton is not a must-own in 12-team leagues. Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd could also see a hit to their fantasy value.
