When cameras cut to Jim Furyk stumbling down the rocks and looking for his ball, it looked like he'd have to take his medicine and a penalty. But he was not only able to get his club on the ball, he also went on to make a par.
Jim Furyk started the final round at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am with a one-shot lead. It's a familiar place for Furyk, who has led at the 54-hole mark more than any other player in recent years. Of course, all that work through the first three days has resulted in a bunch of heartbreak and frustration for Furyk, who hasn't won since he bagged the Tour Championship and 2010 FedEx Cup title.

The opening stretch at Pebble Beach is actually quite easy, especially when the course isn't setup for U.S. Open conditions. So when Furyk stalled out with pars to open his round, his lead was quickly gone. His shot to stay in contention looked bleak too when he drove one off the course at the par-5 sixth.
But fortunately, he caught an amazing lie on the side of a cliff and had to try and take a swing to get back up and on the fairway. It worked, and he got out and went on to avoid dropping a shot. It's an easier par-5 for scoring, but this was still a crucial save early on from what looked like potential tournament-ending circumstances.
